Recently, a Reddit user shared her heartfelt journey. She and her ex-boyfriend had welcomed a pup into their lives, but after parting ways, their shared custody became challenging. The dog’s anxiety escalated, leading to alarming behavior. Despite collaborative efforts with professionals, the situation grew dire.
Feeling unsafe, she made the difficult decision to relinquish custody to her ex. However, tensions rose when she decided to adopt another dog.

2. Despite a breakup, OP and her ex continued to share custody of a large puppy they adopted as a couple.
3. The dog has anxiety issues which never really saw a bright side and only kept deteriorating with time.
4. One time the dog even bit OP’s face, that too very badly, after having an anxiety attack. Something it had never done before which shows the behavior was only getting progressively worse.
5. Since then the dog has had similar episode at a higher frequency which have led to OP not feeling safe around it anymore.
6. OP and her ex mutually decided for her to give up custody of the dog to him, however, he would still ask her to help him out with te dog at times.
7. The ex had also redeveloped some feelings for OP and hinted at returning back into a relationship however the same was not the case for her and she had made it very clear to him already.
8. Recently OP started a new chapter in life by adopting a small elderly dog. When she gave this news to her ex, he didn’t like the decision calling OP irresponsible.
9. OP never wanted to part ways with her large dog but the circumstances and bitter realities just didn’t allow her to live with it anymore.
10. OP asked the internet if parting ways with the dog she got with her then-boyfriend and adopting a new dog made her an AH or not.
NTA. The incident OP shared about the dog biting her face has scared me to the core. No matter how much you love these creatures, don’t get me wrong dog lovers, you just cannot trust that anxiety issue if a dog has one. Because the levels can get really high. Anything could’ve happened that night. The dog could’ve k*lled OP if you think of the worst. She did right by giving away her custody and starting fresh. The ex has no right to argue because the custody-related decision was mutually made. And he isn’t her boyfriend anymore so he has no control over what she does with her life next.
